7 102 B One of the major settlements of the Indo-Iranian borderlands, Mundigak developed into a town with monumental structures at about the same time as the Indus civilization was emerging. Among these was a palace with a colonnade lined with pillars.

9 103 F Around 2600 BC, many Indus settlements were replaced by new, planned towns which included a raised citadel area with public buildings. The people who lived there led a civilized existence, free from the intercity warfare that characterized contemporary Sumer, with which they traded. Agriculture and craft production flourished. But by 1800 BC, the Indus civilization was in decline.
